What is the Enneagram?

The symbol of the Enneagram is a nine-pointed symbol.  “Ennea” means “nine” in Greek and “gram” is something drawn.  Combining wisdom dating back thousands of years with modern psychology, child development and object relations theories, the Enneagram describes 9 types of people and their ways of experiencing the world.  None of these styles is better than the other. They all have inherent strengths and weaknesses. In fact, we have aspects of all of these in us.

9 ways of seeing and experiencing the world

9 unique ways of being in the world

9 sets of motivations, behaviors, goals, and fears

As we explore how our personality styles impact us as mothers and as daughters, we begin to understand the differences in our motivations: we have different strengths and different challenges.  We will examine how each type makes decisions, how each type seeks joy and support, and how each type experiences love in a  unique way.  We can use the lessons of each type to freely respond to all of life’s situations.

Both Mariana and Alexandra trained with Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson, two of the leading teachers and developers of the Enneagram system today.  To learn more about the Enneagram visit - www.enneagraminstitute.com - and take the RHETI, the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator test.

“When I first heard about the Enneagram I thought it was used to categorize people.  I have found that the Enneagram helps me see people more deeply - see what is really going on with them and with much less judgement.  Now I can see how we are all doing the best we can.  I have been able to deepen my connections with people and go through life with more ease. Understanding more about my daughter’s unique personality style actually helps me be more curious about her and understand her motivations and needs... It keeps me less reactive, more curious, more engaged!” - Mariana
